Most scale, such as Obscure, Lecanium and Kermes are a small, almost turtle-like appearing insect that covers the twigs and branches of infected trees. Trees succeptible to scale infestation include: Oak, Ash, Redbud, Mulberry and Maples, just to name a few. They can also be found on other trees or shrubs on occasion. Euonymus scale, which affects primarily Euonymus shrubs, appears as small white flecks on the underside of the shrubs leaves. Scale is best controlled with two or three oil and insecticide sprays per season. Please let us know if you see signs of scale on your trees/shrubs. |
Keeping your trees or shrubs in good health is the best way to help them survive harsh environmental conditions. Did you know that the root system for most trees and shrubs are as large and expansive underground as the tree or shrub is round and tall above ground? Trees and shrubs need organic nutrients and minerals around their rootsystem to promote healthy topgrowth and leaf development. Rootfeeding of trees and shrubs is recommended once or twice yearly to help promote healthy and vigorous development during their growth cycles. It can also help the tree or shrub to recover from any damage received from adverse environmental conditions. The healthier a tree or shrub root system is, the more that plant is able to fend off insects, diseases and damage from Spring and Summer storms. Please contact us
if you would be interested to see how rootfeeding could
help the trees and shrubs on your property. |
Because of the drought we have had lately, we are recommending to water any newly planted trees, shrubs or grass if possible. Even though plants are not
showing any top growth at this time, their rootsystems
are still actively storing up nutrients and materials for
the coming growing season. |
