Sprinkler System Startups and
Annual Backflow Certification

Our system start-up service includes checking the backflow system for leaks and checking all zones for proper coverage of your lawn and landscape.  We can also perform the annual backflow certification if required on your system.

If your irrigation system is connected to the Wichita Municipal Water Supply, the City of Wichita requires your backflow device to be certified annually.  You may have already received notice regarding this. The City of Wichita also requires that connected backflow systems be rebuilt every five years to remain in compliance with the regulations (Section 21.12.120 Testing of backflow devices).  If you live in a surrounding community, you should contact your local water department for the requirements of your particular city.

The cost to start-up and perform minor coverage adjustments on your system is $60.00.  The required Annual Certification is $45.00 and we handle all the paperwork with the City of Wichita.  If you are not a regular lawn, tree or irrigation customer and you only need a backflow certification done, the charge is $65.00.

If the 5 year system rebuild is required by the City of Wichita, the cost is $120.00 + tax, but does include the re-certification for city records.   

You can check with us or with the City of Wichita at 219-8918 to see if your system is due for the five-year rebuild.

If you have not prepaid your service, we will bill you at the time of the service.  Any required parts or additional repair work will be billed accordingly. We will be sure you understand if there are any additional repairs or charges required before the work is performed.

After most winters, especially if it has been dry, it is recommended to start watering your lawn, trees and shrubs as soon as possible.  If your system is on a well, your system can be started anytime after mid-March.  However, if we do start up your system and a hard freeze occurs again in the next few weeks, Countryside cannot be held responsible for possible damage to your system. 

If your system is connected to city water and has a backflow preventer device installed, it is not recommended to have your system started up any sooner than April 1st due to the possibility of freezing weather conditions that sometimes still occur during this time of the year. If the water remaining in your backflow device freezes, it could burst the casing and cause a severe water leak. Again, if we do start up your system and a hard freeze occurs after the system is up and running, Countryside cannot be held responsible for possible damage to your system. 

If you have a backflow preventer device, it is recommended to invest in a "backflow blanket" or some other protective device that will protect your backflow from freezing weather conditions. Backflow blankets are generally available through internet retailers allthough local stores carry them from time to time (seasonally).

To get on our schedule for irrigation startup and/or backflow certification, simply find your zip code listed on the calendar chart below to confirm the days we will be in your area. Then call our office at 838-3375 to get on the schedule.

In order to activate and run your system, our crews may need access to your irrigation controller (usually in a garage or basement) to run the system through all the zones and check heads for proper coverage.

If at all possible, if you can provide our crews access to your controller by giving us a temporary garage code or leaving a side or back garage access door open, then an actual "appointment" may not be necessary and we can start up your system without any inconvenience to you.

If all you need is a backflow certification, as long as the water is on to your system, we can perform the backflow testing at anytime and you do not even need to be home since the device is located outside.

Appointments will be set according to “morning” (anytime between 8am-12pm) and “afternoon” (anytime between 1pm-4pm).  We can give you a call 20-30 minutes in advance if you need to meet our irrigation technician on the property to facilitate activating your system. Friday appointments and limited Saturday appointments will be *Morning only*.

In the past, the available appointments have filled up fairly quickly. Scheduling will be handled in a “first come, first served” basis, so please call as soon as possible to get on the list.
